David began his musical carreer in the early 70’s, forming a band wi th his best friend.>>
Known as the HOMEL-ALANIZ BAND, they played primarily New York state and the East Coast for almost 25 years.
The Homel-Alaniz Band provided vivid renditions of familiar Grateful Dead tunes and dozens more “closet classics” of the 60’s. They played covers of many improvisational rockers from the likes of the Band, Little Feat, Crosby-Stills-Nash, Tony Rice, The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
The Homel-Alaniz Band earned a popular reputation with numerous Western Ney Yrk area club audiences and they made guest appearances with a number of national acts, including the New Riders of The Purple Sage, Commander Cody, and the Guess Who.
<<Most notable career appearances include a weekly show at a Syracuse University area club. Every Monday night from June 1986 to the late 90’s, The Homel-Alaniz Band transformed the city’s south Crouse Avenue into “Shakedown Street.”
Super Highlight appearances included their own special event productions, as well as guest appearances with a number of national acts including:
> Go Ahead (featuring Grateful Dead musicians Brent Mydland and Billy Kreutzmann),
> Leon Russell/Edgar Winter,
> The Outlaws,
>David Nelson of the New Riders of the Purple Sage,
> & Max Creek.
When The Homel-Alaniz Band retired, David worked in a guitar store for awhile, but soon went West to check out the NW music scene.

After moving to Ashland Oregon recently, David has started a new band -- The Big Fun Band, which is playing every Friday during the Summer, at Jackson Wellsprings in Ashland.
The Wellsprings has created a beautiful rock-floored terrace with canvas tent covering, right outside of their vegetarian cafe and Mineral Springs Pool. Many folks who attended so far, are enthusiastically welcoming this weekly Grateful Dead style show with open arms. "I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled to hear such great tunes that I could dance to, that's why i came back again this week!" said one of the audience dancers.
David intends to create a regular weekly performance at the Wellsprings during the next several summers. The folks at the Wellsprings have camping, RV spaces, vegetatrian cafe, massages, sauna, hot tub, and swimming pool too. So, for that family outing or special date:
Friday evenings this Summer you can dance and enjoy the other amenities at the Jackson Wellsprings and have a really good time. The new stage is jumping with David Homel and The Big Fun Band every Friday.
